Wishing on a star

OK.  So, the blurry star in the photo below is probably a planet not a star, but I wished on it anyway.

What did I wish for?  A way for all of us in this crazy world of ours to calm down and get along.

If Harry had wished on the star, he probably would have wished the girls would leave him to sleep in peace on the living room sofa.

Darby would have wished, wished, wished I would throw a ball for her.

And, the Pumpkin Pie-girl would have wished at least one of the five bones she corralled on the landing had some marrow in it still.

Here's another star.  I wonder if wishing on that one would work.

It can't hurt.

Happy 6th Month Birthday, Pumpkin Girl!

With everything going on around here, I totally forgot to mention that today is the Pumpkin-girl's 6th month birthday!

Happy Birthday, little one!
 You've come a long way!

We're so happy you came to live with us!

Puppy Proofing

Until the Pumpkin-girl came to live with us, I didn't fully appreciate what a really good little dog my Darby is.  I never did much puppy-proofing and still, Darby never really got in any trouble.  She didn't eat things, or break things and to this day, she doesn't jump on anything other than the sofa (and sometimes people--we're still working on that!)

But the same cannot be said for Pumpkin.

While we were sitting around the dining room table enjoying our Thanksgiving dinner, the girls were playing outside.  My niece looked out the window at one point and asked "Is it OK that Pumpkin is on the table?

I rushed to the door, and sure enough, there the Lil' Shitski was: smack dab in the middle of the table.

She must have jumped up on that barrel against which she is so cutely posing in the above photo, then jumped (gasp) from there to the table.

I was horrified by the possibility of her falling off the table, so I opened the door v-e-r-y  s-l-o-w-l-y, but before I could step outside she JUMPED OFF!   Sailed through the air looking for all the world like a large flying squirrel.  With Dumbo ears.*

She landed and ran around me in circles, totally fine and totally unaware that I was calming myself with yoga breathing.

We moved the barrel.

* Come to think of it, her ears probably acted like parachutes.

Someone is a naughty girl

When Darby came to live with us, Leda warned us that a corgi might not be too kind to the plants in our backyard.  But, Darby has been a perfect angel.  She hasn't destroyed a single plant--only stolen a few tomatoes, bell peppers, and zinnias what were growing within her reach.  Oh, yeah, and then there is the Feverfew that used to grow all over our backyard but now gets grazed on as soon as it sprouts.

Pumpkin has NOT been a perfect angel.  Most definitely not!

When it was no longer enough fun or challenge to destroy plants, she started working on the pots the plants live in.  This week she broke two fairly large pots that contained lovely succulents (if succulents can be lovely) and then decided to empty a pot and steal the pot itself.

Here is the photographic evidence:

She is so darned cute, it's hard to be mad at her!

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

I'm thankful for a lot this year, but the thing I'm most thankful for is that surgeons can replace a worn out, painful part with a new one and a good, hardworking man can go on with life free of pain.

Thanks for all the good wishes you sent Glenn's way.  He is doing very well.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Doin' The Chelsea

When Erika was away attending the University of California at Davis she had a roommate named Chelsea.  Chelsea used to imitate Bonnie's habit of turning her head (and thereby her big, radar ears) from side to side as she tried to figure out what was being said to her or asked of her.  Chelsea would hold her cupped hands on either side of her head and turn it side to side and all of us would crack up.  After that, whenever Bonnie did the head tilting thing, I called it "Doin' The Chelsea."

Darby has only done The Chelsea a couple of times.  Usually she just stares straight at me, with those soft, cow eyes of hers.

But the Pumpkin-pie girl does The Chelsea a LOT.

Like this morning when I snapped these photos right in a row:

P.S.  I know Darby's nails are too long.  She happily lets me brush her teeth, clean her ears, wipe her eyes, brush her, and even trim the fur between her toes.  BUT she HATES having me trim her nails and she has hated it from the very beginning.  When we were walking a lot the concrete kept them worn down.  Chasing tennis balls on the grass just doesn't have the same result.  We haven't been walking so much, but will be starting again when things get back to normal around here.

In these photos Pumpkin looks like she is nearly as big as Darby, but she is much smaller.  Just a tiny bit of a thing and as sweet as can be.

My girls are so pretty

(I love Pumpkin and am so happy she came to live with us, but when The Darbs looks at me like this, I just melt.)

Fumble recovered

Uh-oh!  About to lose the ball!
Lost it!
Barely breaking stride as she picks it up.
Recovered!
