Not a lot could make me happier on a Sunday afternoon

Not a lot could make me happier on a Sunday afternoon, than sitting with my furry brown-eyed girl.

Having my brother back with us here on earth would make me happier and having my human brown-eyed girl living nearby would make me happier, too. Of course, world peace would make me happier and come to think of it, so would not having those darned age spots on my hands!

Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide!

Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide...well sort of.

At this point, Harry decided to take his chances with Darby--he jumped past her, ran up the second flight of stairs and jumped up onto the linen closet where neither girl could get him.

When you are a cat, I guess those nine lives give you lots of places to run and hide!

Scenes from yesterday evening

Here are two shots I took yesterday evening.

Poor Bonnie. She spends a lot of time waiting for Harry to jump down from tables and countertops (shhh! don't tell anyone that I've never been successful in keeping him off those surfaces!) It's particularly pathetic to me when Harry sits on the computer desk and Bonnie stands staring at the wall behind the desk--thinking he might jump down on that side!

That's a fun photo, but I really like this one:

My sweet girl, sleeping at my feet while I compose this post.

Oh! I like these girls!

Only one will fit

Bonnie tried her best to pick up both tennis balls.

But, in the end, only one would fit in her mouth and Darby was able to scoop up the other one!

To Bonnie's human mom

Dear Mom,

I miss you.

Do you miss me?

"Oh, yes! Of course!" you say?

Oh, yeah? Well, it sure doesn't look like it to me!

I saw this on Grandma's computer:

Running

I love photos of Darby running.

I especially like photos of her running where her chubby, multi-colored foot pads show!

Precision

I love the very precise way Darby retrieves a ball and then carefully deposits it at my feet. She doesn't want me to take it out of her mouth. I know I could work on this with her, but have never bothered because she so carefully drops it at my feet that I can almost always stop it with my foot, then bend over (which is good for me!) and pick it up.

You know I love Bonnie, but she doesn't compare to Darby in the deposit-after-retrieving department. She comes charging in with the ball, let's go of it while she is still running and I often have to go searching for it!

This afternoon I sat on the ground outside throwing the ball for the girls.

This is how carefully Darby placed the ball each time:

I love this girl

There were times in the early months, when I wondered what I had done bringing a puppy home to live in my well-ordered house.

But, now, it would be hard to imagine our house without her.

I love this girl.

Playing in the sunshine

The rainy days of last week didn't seem to bother Darby and Bonnie one bit.

But, as much as I enjoyed the rain and hope it rains again soon, it was good to see the sun yesterday and good to see my girls playing in it.

Nothing new

I have nothing new to report. Another rainy day. As often happens here, we are getting too much rain--it is running off into gutters, storm drains and then out to sea because the ground is too saturated to accept anymore.

Puddles, like the one in this picture

are taking a long time to drain away.

The dogs don't seem to mind splashing through the puddles in pursuit of the tennis ball. But, their human got tired today of drying them off and wiping their muddy feet and resorted again to playing fetch with them on the carpeted floor upstairs.

I love the rain, but will be happy for a day or two of sun to dry us out a bit!

Ball

I KNOW it is raining and miserable out here, but I don't care.  I can see a ball up there on the potting bench and I want that woman who feeds me to throw it for me.

P.S.  Ignore the dog slobber and footprints all over the door. I'm beginning to think of the door and the dogs like Roseanne Barr talked about house cleaning and kids:  Cleaning house when you have kids is like shoveling the walk while it is snowing.

Indoor fun

We all of us humans in this family love rain. Maybe because we've lived most/all of our lives in Southern California where we routinely go for nine months without a drop.

It appears that the canine members of the family are no different--the heavy rain and high winds of the last few days have not deterred Darby and Bonnie from their ball obsession.

But, sometimes it is raining just too darn hard and the wind is blowing too darn much to play fetch outdoors. So, what to do with two dogs who need a ball fix?

Play upstairs where there is carpet to keep them from sliding!

At first, I sat at the top of the stairs and threw one ball to the left into Erika's old room for Bonnie and one ball to the right into Glenn's and my room for Darby. After awhile, Bonnie got tired and when I went downstairs to get my camera, she followed me and jumped up on the sofa for a snooze.

Then, Darby had some fun! I threw the ball from inside my bedroom, across the landing into Erika's room. And, I captured some of it on camera--although not very well!

I shall chomp you

I shall chomp you!

And, I will chomp you right back!

But I will do it on your soft, flubbery cheek!

What?

What? Do I have something on my face?

Footprints

Erika saw these hoof prints while out walking on her first morning at her new temporary home with my niece and her husband:

I wonder if Bonnie and Darby would be afraid of the deer or want to chase them? I'm sure they would go crazy smelling their tracks!

Keeping watch

Bonnie is watching out for another gopher.

She spent a large part of Sunday gazing out toward the area where she nabbed the gopher.  Like this:

This morning, Darby waited at the potting bench for the ball and Bonnie headed straight out to the fence--BEFORE either of them "did their business" after all night inside!

The drive! The determination!  The memory!

Too bad we can't harness it for some good!

I think they like each other

I think they like each other.

I sure wish they could share food as nicely as they share resting spots!

P.S. I think my lamp shade is crooked, too.
