Stuffed animal toys

This little armadillo/possum (I never could figure out which it is supposed to be) was a gift from my sister, "Aunt Kathy," to Darby shortly after Darby came to live with us.  The creature made one of it first appearances on the blog here.
(I'm glad I got a better camera than I had back then!)

It's making a reappearance today because yesterday morning Darby rooted around in the toy basket in our bathroom, grabbed the armadillo/possum (for the first time in a very long time) and ran downstairs with it.  Here it is, more than three years after we received it, just a little worse for wear.

Both dogs are relentless chewers of bones, sticks, paper, and cardboard, but they just don't destroy stuffed animals.

Read that and weep, oh you owners of Golden and Labrador Retrievers!

My guys don't destroy stuffed toys either. They eventually get gross enough I throw them away, but the boys never de-stuff them, pull out squeakers, etc. Really now that they are middle-aged, stuffed toys aren't all that interesting.

Oh - you are so lucky! My guys are the destroyers of stuffed toys! It takes them about 60 seconds to remove the squeaker - within about 2 minutes the stuffing is gone. Zoey is especially enamoured of stuffed toys; I give her one for a minute and follow her around until she starts tearing it up - then I have to take it away. If she doesn’t come when I call - I use the stuffed squeaky! I really wish they could have them for a while because they really like them. My guys are 1, 3, and 4.

Baby Darby ! I think that must be like us eating comfort foods, returning to an old favorite....Mine do that too, which is why I sorta hate to get rid of too many. I have always kept one baby toy from all my corgis too...

We scotties don't really play with stuffies either..other than burying them. However, Roxy destroys them in no time.

Does Darby still have Mr. Greenbean? (I think that's what you called him), the toy that came with her from Arkansas?

My dad still has his Championship toy, this really big stuffed octapuss. So many puppies, and no one has destroyed it in nine years.

Fun that this is such a popular comment post! Taryn, I throw the toys in the washing machine every now and then (I think you do, too) and if I've lost a single one in all these years, I don't remember it. (I washed all of Erika's stuffies the same way.) Diana, are your dogs Corgis? It IS frustrating to have toys destroyed real quickly, isn't it? Daisy, I'm surprised Pumpkin doesn't try to bury the few stuffies that make it outside; she buries bones whenever she gets a fresh one. Leda, I almost mentioned Mr. Greebean in the post. He is still alive and well. Darby sleeps with her head on him almost every night. He never leaves her nighttime kennel -- Pumpkin learned the hard way once when she tried to steal him! (smile) Mr. Grape, the same type of toy you sent with Pumpkin hasn't been chewed up either, but Pumpkin doesn't sleep with him. She drags him around the bedroom/bathroom, tossing him up in the air every now and then. Thanks, everyone for the fun comments!

My current 3 consist of Charlie, a true/blue/real Corgi, Sam, whom the vet says is a real Corgi, but he is about 3 inches too big all around for me to say that, and Zoey, who is just a Corgi wan'a be (the pound said she was a Corgi, but I think she is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and something small mix). They are all three rescues. Sam and Zoey are the destroyers - although if Charlie had a toy long enough he would pull out the squeaker too. My former corgis, Ellie and Buddy, both tore the squeakers out but I could sew up the toy and they would be ok for a while. Ellie I got as a pup but Buddy was also a rescue. Maybe it's something about being a rescue?!
