Missing

I think Bonnie is missing her human and Darby is missing "her" seat on the sofa!

Bonnie

Bonnie was the last thing I saw last night before closing my eyes.

The weather has cooled off so significantly, that having a warm dog at the foot of our bed is not a bad thing.

It happened overnight

It happened overnight.

Literally.

Yesterday, it was summer and today it is fall.

Yesterday there were no leaves on the ground and today half the tree has turned yellow and there is a slow, constant drift of leaves to the ground.

Our daughter's wedding on Saturday was wonderful except for one thing--record breaking heat! 104F! Fortunately, the ceremony was at 6:00 pm and it started cooling down by then, but not as much as the men in their dark tuxedo coats would have liked.

And, here it is two days later and summer is gone. Fall is here; the air is much cooler.

It is even cooler where the honeymooners are--Whitefish, Montana, where it is currently forecast to hit 76 today but only 48 on Wednesday. Good snuggling weather!

Where our corgis get their ears?

Think this is where our corgis get their ears?

I see a resemblance:

Erika's Wedding Day!

Making progress

In spite of all the wedding activity, I've managed to make some progress on the vest I am knitting.

It's nice to have Darby for company while I'm knitting.

Weren't they cute puppies?

Controlling space

I've been reading Patricia McConnell's books about animal behavior and am seeing real examples of what she describes as "controlling space"--Bonnie controls it and Darby really would like to!

This photo doesn't show it well, but one will walk ahead a bit then curve in to herd the other in the direction she wants to go.

Darby tries to do it with me a lot and she is trying to do it with Bonnie. I just keep walking forward in little tiny steps but I wish I could bend over and nip Darby on the nose like Bonnie does! Bonnie's technique seems to be a little more effective than mine!

Sometimes a little distance is a good thing

Sometimes, a little distance is a good thing.

Not when Erika is so far away in San Jose. But, she is here with us now and I'll just enjoy this time.

But, sometimes when an energetic almost 7-months old puppy pesters a 6 year old dog a little too much, then a little distance is a good thing.

Guess who's here?

Bonnie!

Oh, yeah. Erika, the bride-to-be, is here, too.

Nothing comes to mind

I can't think of a title for this post or text to go with the photo.

But, I think it is cute.

I wouldn't let MY girl go topless

OK. So, my sister's pup is a Poodle--a FRENCH poodle.

But, I still don't think she should go to the beach topless!

A guy's gotta have some privacy

So, the chairs are no longer tipped on their sides in the doorways of the kitchen/family room to prevent Darby from wandering away. The barriers are removed from the bottom of the stairs and we haven't unfolded the x-pen in our upstairs bathroom in a long time.

But, there is one baby-gate still in use and it is likely to remain in use forever:

A guy--in this case Harry-- is entitled to some privacy in his bathroom.

Up close Nose and Ears

Monday, September 14, 2009

Hey, Bonnie!

Let's see who can run fastest now!

Bonnie is coming to visit with her human Erika as we get ready for Erika's wedding on September 26 and Bonnie is staying with us the following week while Erika and Christian are on their honeymoon.

I hope Bonnie and Darby get along at least as well as they did in June!

Darby loves to play fetch

Self Portrait--Sort of

I wonder why

Darby sometimes does something really funny when we are playing fetch.

I'll throw the ball, she'll run after it, scoop it up, then run in a circle where she picked it up before running back to me. She doesn't do it every time and sometimes she runs in the circle twice before starting back to me.

It's the strangest thing and, of course, she has never done it when I had my camera ready on the video setting!

This photo has nothing to do with the running in circles, but it's cute!

Rotated Stomach Pose

Rotated stomach pose--yoga Corgi style!

Side Benefit of a Puppy

One of the unexpected--for me--side benefits of having a puppy is the amount of time I spend outside at times I normally wouldn't be outside.

Like the middle of the night!

OK, it has been a long while since the Darbs got me outside in the middle of the night--but I am regularly out with her at 10:00 pm when it is dark and lots of wonderful planets and stars can be seen, and early, early in the morning when the sun is coming up but the moon is still in the sky.

And, every now and then, I think to get a photo:

Thud

Thud.

The sound of a tennis ball being dropped at your feet from Corgi height.

Can't you just hear her thinking "So pick it up and throw it already!!"

Speaking of Big Dogs

A few posts ago I mentioned that it seems Darby is afraid of or doesn't like big dogs.

I ran across this photo of Bonnie and a REALLY big dog.

I wonder what Darby would think!

P.S. This dog lives in an APARTMENT in Erika's complex.

Not laboring on Labor Day

Can't think of anything I'd rather do on Labor Day than sit on the sofa knitting with my pup nearby.

A few minutes later, she wobbled over (hard to walk on a squishy leather sofa) and put her head on my lap. Awwww. Wish I had a picture of that!

Lots of corgis

When I took Darby to the vet about two weeks ago to be spayed, there were two Pembroke Corgis in the waiting room when we walked in.

Yesterday, when we went back to have her stitches removed, there were two different Pems in the waiting room! Then, in walked a woman with a cat in a carrier. She made a beeline for Darby and told me she has two Pems at home and lives next door to someone with Cardigans--including a new blue merle puppy--you guessed it! Darby's cousin, River!

Small world, huh?

I think Darby is afraid of BIG dogs. She was friendly with the Pems both days, but yesterday, when a Greyhound mix (who was herself so afraid that she was shaking) walked in, Darby backed between my legs and started barking.

I guess it's hard being a short dog in a tall world!

This photo has nothing to do with the words of this post, but it's cute. I like the tip of her tail showing between her ears. Those ears! I love those ears.

Guess Who is 6 Months Old?

Darby!

Can you believe those ears??

Paper Shredder

Now if I could just get her to cross cut the paper, I could do away with my electric paper shredder.

Corgi butts

My brother had a thing about animal butts.

Especially elephant butts.

Don't ask.

I bet he would have liked corgi butts, too, if he had met Darby.

Quick!

What is it?

Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Ready!

If Darby could talk she would be saying "Come on, come on, COME ON! THROW THE BALL! I'M READY!"

(Yet another photo by Krysten the puppy letter-outer."
